Small Wonder: The Amazing Story of the Volkswagen Beetle
Published in Paperback by Bentley Publishers (April, 2003)
Author: Walter Henry Nelson
Average review score:

Only a car with such character could have this amazing story
I was given a copy of this book back in 1971 when I aquired my first car, a 1959 Bug. This book helped cement a lifelong love of the Volkswagen Beetle. The author did such an outstanding job turning an industrial wonder into a love story. This book should be included in the glovebox of EVERY new VW and is a must for any Volkswagen lover.

Extremely insightful on a car that shaped the industry.
Just what I was looking for, and then some. This book starts at the very beggining, with the Beetle's mentor and VW's founder Dr. Porsche. (Did you know he was Czeck?)
It follow's the company's history (which is to say, the car's history) with just the right amount of coverage to its amazing journey from WWII to the car's EOP (end of production) in Puebla, Mexico. The cronology of this book is excellent. Worthdly of a movie script, this book is extremely enganging. As you read its history, names like Ford, Peugeot, Renault amongst others keep poping up narrating each one's influence on the company's history. (Did you know H. Ford II was offered the factory, for free?)
The only thing that I'd wish from this book was to have the author do either a follow up or a revised update. This book finishes with the beetle's last production car, but the company has certantly not. I wish I could get more info from the company's developement from that point forward, including the launch of the new beetle among other superb new VWs...

Required reading for every VW fan.
I first read this book when I was 10 years old, and ever since it has amazed me how well written, interesting and researched was the original text. It's a shame that the story ends on the late 1960s, and considering that here in Mexico the little Beetle is still one of the best suited cars for the country, perhaps would be nice to have a second edition telling how it has made it to survive until the 1990s, becoming the "Car of the Century" and being registered on the Guiness Records with over 21 million cars produced on the last 60 years.

Cradle the Thought : A Journal for the New Mother's First Year

Better Than Your Average Baby Book
THis is a great guided journal for new moms. I find the normal baby books too incomplete and they really miss the emotional part of motherhood - the ups and downs that come with every new week of your baby's life. This book allows you to capture those minute and intimate details. My son is 10 weeks old and I am really enjoying the journal. If you want a detailed record of your baby's life and how you felt about it, buy this journal!!

VERY EASY BABY BOOK
This is a really fabulous and easy way to track your baby's first year of life. My daughter is now in her 12th month and I'm still writing in this journal on a weekly basis. It seems so often I hear from other mothers that they didn't keep up with the baby books. This journal makes it so easy--have I said that enough? Even if you're not into journaling I would consider buying this book. I'm going to buy it as a shower gift for any friends I have becoming a new mom.

GREAT IDEA!
I really love this journal. Guided journals are the best! There are so many tiny details that I would have normally never thought to write about and they would be gone forever. Most baby books have the basics - 'first step', 'first smile' etc... but this book helps you remember the other really important events. For example: 'How is mom feeling?', 'How is baby sleeping?', 'How does baby like to be held?', 'What's babys favorite toy?', 'What noises is baby making?', 'What's babys favorite game?'. My son is 7 months old and when I read back to the earlier pages, I realize that I had already forgotten so much. Thank goodness for this book!

The only tiny, minor flaw that I feel this book has is that some of the questions repeat a bit too often. Some of the questions need to repeat because things change, but I feel that on several occasions I am just writing 'same as last time'. But I still highly recommend this book!! It's a great shower gift...or buy it for yourself like I did. I accidentally misplaced my journal and couldn't find it for about 3 weeks and I felt l lost - it's amazing how much your baby can change in that amount of time. That shows how much I rely on this journal. Don't wait until it's too late, buy it now, you'll be eternally glad you did!

Don't Miss This!
I truly enjoy a book that is so captivating, that I'm willing to pass up a good night's sleep in order to finish it. Daughter of Dragons was the first K.N. work I had the pleasure of reading, and it was a real treat. Extremely good character development, intriguing (but not typical) plotline, and name creativity that I've never seen the likes of before. Keep up the great writing K.N., your readership is eager for more!

Door of Everything

Author: Ruby Nelson
Average review score:

Personal Ascension explained from the Christian Viewpoint
Ruby Nelson's book discusses man's ultimate purpose: which is the transmutation and ascension of the physical body as Jesus did. She describes this process from the Christain perspective. Unfolding for us what it means to undergo the second birth and the true purpose of the Holy Spirit. She discribes this beautiful body of LIght that we will live in and gives us guidelines in how to attain this perfection. This was the true message of Jesus, he came to show us the way of perfection that someday each one of us must follow...

Wonderful little book
If you had read this book in the 60s (when it was written) it might not have made much sense. But today, after Autobiography of a Yogi and Conversations With God, this wonderful little book not only makes perfect sense, it gives you the urgency to find God, an urgency based on the confirmations of the previously mentioned books. Not only do you understand Jesus' message better, you also see through the misinterpretations. This is a book you want to keep on you to study at all times, until you can actually walk through the door of everything.

Undoubtedly "The Door of Everything"
From the moment I picked up this little book magical things began happening in my life. Call it synchronicity or manifestation, The Door of Everything gave me access to a new way of being about my life. The book made perfect sense to me and answered my "unanswerable" questions about life. When I finished the book, I immediately re-read it and will probably read it many more times.

Hunting Big Whitetails: Tactics Guaranteed to Make You a More Successful Whitetail Hunter
Published in Paperback by Buck Pub (01 September, 1995)
Author: Bruce L. Nelson
Average review score:

A deer hunting gem!
I have hunted whitetails in Minnesota for over twenty seasons with less than average success. This easy to read text gave me the confidence and tips than helped me bag my first large whitetail buck. I prefer to hunt "the big woods" alone. From this book I learned how big bucks differ in their behavior from other deer. It helped me understand what is happening in the field and what signs to look for. I now see and hear more deer than I used to. My hunting is more enjoyable (and successful) than ever before. The book is the standard re-read every year before the opener. I strongly recommend it!

Going after Big Bucks
Growing up in a deer hunting family, my father taught me not only how to "think" like a deer, but how to practice the art of hunting in such a manner as to assure maximum enjoyment of the entire hunting adventure. Such things as planning the hunt, selecting and maintaining the proper equipment, getting your body and mind into the right condition. As I read Bruce Nelson's Hunting Big Whitetails I often stopped to reflect on how completely this fine fellow enjoys and celebrates the experience of being a hunter. I've never read a book that deals more completely--and in such detail--with every aspect of the nature of Whitetail deer, how they behave in various types of cover and terrain, and, most importantly, how you as a hunter can enrich your experience by these understandings. Bruce brings to the hunting experience not only a great deal of expertise and skill, but also an ethic that reflects the kind of values we in the hunting community want to preserve and portray. My Dad loved the book and so did I. No wonder all the reviews scored it five stars. A must on the shelf of any serious hunter. A great gift for a hunting buddy.

Hunting Big Whitetails
'Hunting Big Whitetails' is a contemporary book that easily matches the quality of the 'Greats'. It's readily in the same league shared by fewer than a dozen other classic hunting books of the past century and a half. The author shares with his readers many fascinating storys of hunts and techniques. Do, these techniques work? Well, all you have to do is briefly 'thumb' through the book and you will see the greatest photographic collection of the largest whitetail deer ever published between two covers of one book. The written word, in every respect, matches the record-class photos. In short, it's a great book, destined to become a 'classic' and is a 'must have' for any hunter.

The Anatomy of Nelson's Ships
Published in Hardcover by United States Naval Inst. (June, 1980)
Author: C. Nepean Longridge
Average review score:

Outstanding!
Details abound in this marvellous book by an author steeped in his subject. I felt as if he had been on the ways at the time of building and relating his opbservations, but from the viewpoint of an educating master of this complex subject. I thoroughly enjoyed every page and can use the details provided to better my own modeling skills. If you enjoy detail and want to read about it from the pen of a master of his subject, buy this book today!

Longridge's Victory
This is a great book, but it's meant mainly and despite the title, for the modeler of the great flagship of Lord Nelson. There are very few details relating to any of the other ships of Nelson, but the Victory is covered like no other book...

Incredible Collection of Information, a Masterpiece.
WOW! That was the first thing I said after opening Amazon's box containing this book. The book is a substantial size, nice and thick and the binding quality is excellent. What a masterpiece. The numerous amounts of fold-outs are excellent, full of great info on the Victory. There are a number of glossy pages with lots of pictures of the original and the model HMS Victory. The figure list is very usefull as are all the other lists to make finding your way around very quick and easy. The other reviewers have accurately depicted the content; I felt that the rest needed recognition. If you are at all like me and don't mind spending the money you will understand this next statement. Buy two, one to keep safe in your bookshelf and one to wear out during its extensive use. BUY IT you will for sure enjoy all 283 pages. Michael

Heart and Blood: Living With Deer in America
Published in Hardcover by Knopf (November, 1997)
Author: Richard Nelson
Average review score:

Heart of the hunter
This book is the most thorough, most comprehensive, most graceful study of deer I have ever encountered. It deals with everything from the natural history of deer to the animal rights movement to different approaches to hunting and management. There's even a section that deals with the ways in which the film "Bambi" inextricably has altered Americans' views about deer. Nelson is honest about his own biases and convictions; he tells us that he is a hunter and that he believes in a strict ethical code with regard to his own hunting, a belief he learned while working as a cultural anthropologist with the Koyukon Indians in northern Alaska. Despite his strong beliefs, he is remarkably even-handed when dealing with the many controversial issues surrounding wildlife management in America today. I understand much better now why animal rights activists and wilderness preservationists do not always make comfortable allies. I trust this author; he has integrity. I loved "The Island Within" for capturing the mist-ridden world of an island off the coast of the Pacific Northwest, and I loved this book every bit as much. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in deer, hunting, and the animal rights and environmental movements. It is balanced, fair, and majestic.

Couldn't put it down
Seriously, and I've met few non-fiction books that I can say that about. I'm not a hunter but I found this book quite engaging. Hunting is only one focus of the book. There is great appeal for readers interested in wilderness and conservation issues in the U.S. Remarkably detailed, intelligent, and colorful examination of deer across the U.S.; Alaska, Texas, Wisconsin, California, New York, etc. Very well-written; not a word is wasted and the whole is beautifully composed.

Great review and perspective of deer in America.
Nelson explores deer history, management, and views in a thorough and unbiased review. He takes a personal perspective on values of hunting which will make the hunter and nonhunter alike ponder the marvels of the hunt.

Nike is a Goddess: The History of Women in Sports
Published in Paperback by Atlantic Monthly Press (October, 1999)
Authors: Lissa Smith, Lucy Danziger, Mariah B. Nelson, and Mariah Burton Nelson
Average review score:

A must read for sports fans of both genders
There are 13 essays about various sports and also includes and introduction and conclusion. Some of the essays were better than others, usually because of the sport the essay examined. Babe Didrikson is featured in more than one essay, which highlights her significance to women's sports. The essays really draw attention to the many contributions many women, who's names are not commonly known, have brought to their sports. As a knowledgeable sports fan I enjoyed learning new things about female athletics. The essay's covered Track and Field, Baseball and Softball, Tennis, Golf, Canoeing Kayaking, Rowing Sailing, Skiing, Figure Skating, Swimming, Equestrian Sports, Gymnastics, Soccer, Ice Hockey, and Basketball. I totally skipped the Boating, Equestrian, and Ice Hockey essays and skimmed the Skiing essay. These sports don't interest me even in men's sport (except Ice Hockey, but I can't buy the women's version of the sport). I would recommend this book and I'll keep it in case my 6 year old daughter one day wishes to learn more about one or more of these sports.

FINALLY
I would really like to exhale now that someone finally gave props to the female basketball players who have great talent, but are not in the WNBA or Over Seas playing on a "professional level". Nike is a Goddess went "underground"to the best pro-am basketball tourney for woman at West 4th.ST. in NYC. These are the woman who have played for years in college and many other pro-am basketball tournaments. These woman are "street legends" of NYC.
These woman are excellent players, professionals, mothers and SUPERB basketball players. I'm so glad someone noticed, Thanx!

This book reminds women of just how much they have achieved.
I was so impressed with this book that I plan to include it in a graduate-level college course about women's sports.
